Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku’s only priority for the summer is to make a return to Inter, although this would only be possible if he and the Nerazzurri can convince the Blues on a dry loan.

This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who reported live on air that the Nerazzurri must be able to secure the 29-year-old on a dry loan in order for the move to be financially feasible for them.

The possibility of a return for Lukaku to the Nerazzurri has looked increasingly concrete in recent weeks, with a meeting having reportedly taken place with a lawyer representing the player.

However, agreeing a deal with Chelsea will not prove to be straightforward given the investment that the Blues made to bring him to the Premier League just last summer, and Di Marzio believes that there is only one formula for a deal that the Nerazzurri can realistically do.

“Lukaku has never hidden the desire to wear a Nerazzurri shirt again, but regardless of his will, and even with a reduction in his wages, everything will depend only on Chelsea,” he said.

He explained that “Once the new owner has clarified his vision, and understood whether Marina Granovskaia will stay on as director at the club or not, it will be possible to get further along with something that has so far been nothing more than an idea.”

“So far Inter haven’t probed for any kind of agreement,” Di Marzio explained, “nor has the player.”

“The finances involved and the formula of a deal must then be clarified,” he continued, “the club paid €113 million for the Belgian, tying him down to a contract until 2026.”

“The only possible option would be a dry loan,” he said, “without a purchase clasue, but at the moment, the Nerazzurri will not take any steps, partly out of respect for Chelsea’s investment.”

“With Lukaku having expressed his wish, it’s up to Chelsea,” he said, “who will have to convince themselves on letting him go to Inter under the only conditions that would allow for his return, all one year after the big negotiations last summer.”
