Inter were at the forefront of Serie A during the period when it was the most high-profile Europe, from the late 1980s through the early 2000s, along with teams like AC Milan and Juventus.

Perhaps the peak of this sense of glamour and importance for the Nerazzurri was when Lothar Matthaus won the Ballon D’Or in 1990, whilst legendary former defender Andreas Brehme came in the voting, both having won the World Cup with Germany that year.

Brehme posted on his Instagram account to highlight not only the pair’s achievement that year, but also the fact that the ranking for the award was dominated by Serie A players.
