Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti feels that Lautaro Martinez is a vital player to the Nerazzurri no matter what, regardless of his form.

Speaking to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, Zanetti gave the view that while the 24-year-old has recently been in some of his most impressive form, he is always key to his team.

Martinez finished the season in exceptionally strong goalscoring form, finding the net at a rate of around once per match from the start of April onwards.

This went some way to answering the doubts that emerged during some of his less impressive periods of form, particularly the goal drought that he had experienced during February and Match.

However, the Argentine has always had a role to play even when he is not scoring goals, and Zanetti emphasized that the striker does not need to necessarily to be at his absolute best to still be important to the team.

“Lautaro comes into [Argentina’s clash with Italy tomorrow evening] in great form, but he’s always an important player for us every time he plays.”
