Italian media have been mixed in their assessment of Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni’s performance for Italy in yesterday evening’s 1-1 Nations League draw with Germany.

The 23-year-0ld was awarded 7/10 scores for his display in the player ratings for the match published in today’s print editions of Tuttosport and the Corriere dello Sport, whilst the Gazzetta dello Sport gave him a more mediocre grade of 5.5/10.

Bastoni lined up alongside Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi at the heart of the Italian national team’s defense in yesterday evening’s match, taking the place of experienced duo Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini who had started against Argentina.

The Nerazzurri defender helped the Azzurri see out a 1-1 draw in what was a fairly cagey affair, and both Tuttosport and the Corriere dello Sport found his display to be largely very good.

The Gazzetta, however, argued that the 23-year-old had not been as proactive with the ball as would be expected from a player of his qualities, and for this reason gave him a somewhat lower score.
