Valencia have joined the race to sign Inter midfielder Matias Vecino on a free transfer this summer.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, who report that newly-appointed Valencia coach Gennaro Gattuso is an admirer of the 30-year-old and is looking to bring him to the Mestalla.

Vecino’s five-season spell as an Inter player is set to come to an end, with the Uruguayan having joined from Fiorentina in the summer of 2017 but no agreement on the horizon for an extension of his deal past the end of the current month.

Several destinations have been linked for the former Empoli and Fiorentina midfielder, including teams within Serie A, but Valencia could look to bring him to the Spanish top flight.

Gattuso was recently appointed to take charge of the La Liga side in place of the departed Jose Bordalas, and has made Vecino one of his early transfer targets to rebuild the squad to suit his ideas.
