Chelsea have asked Inter for Denzel Dumfries as part of a deal for striker Romelu Lukaku rather than any of their biggest name players.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Blues would prefer to ask for Dumfries rather than Alessandro Bastoni, Lautaro Martinez, or Milan Skriniar going the other way.

Inter and Chelsea are set to seriously negotiate and to explore whether a formula can be found that would allow Lukaku to return to Inter on loan without the Blues feeling that they have lost out too much on their investment in the striker.

A substantial loan fee would be one possibility, but so would the inclusion of a player going the other way with some manner of loan swap formula.

Bastoni, Martinez, and Skriniar have all been linked, but these three are all players who the Nerazzurri are very keen to keep hold of, whereas Dumfries could be a player they’re more willing to include in the talks.
