Inter could still decide to extend the contract of defender Andrea Ranocchia.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that a stay at the Nerazzurri is not off the table for the 34-year-old despite the expectation that he would be on his way this summer.

Ranocchia signed a one-year contract extension with Inter last summer, although the club also have an option to extend the deal by a further season.

The expectation over the past few weeks was that the Nerazzurri would not exercise this option, and that the 34-year-old would depart on a free transfer during the summer transfer window.

However, it cannot be excluded that the Nerazzurri will make a turnaround and decide to extend with Ranocchia, having discussed the defender’s situation in talks with his agent Tulio Tinti yesterday afternoon.

Ranocchia’s experience could still be considered valuable by the Nerazzurri to shore up their defensive options for one more season.
