Chelsea are stepping up their interest in Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries and could ask for him as part of a complex deal that would see Romelu Lukaku return to the Nerazzurri on loan next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Dutchman is the player the Blues look to be most interested in as a counterpart in Lukaku talks, and that Inter value him at no less than €40 million.

Inter and Chelsea are now in serious talks regarding a potential loan of Lukaku back to the Nerazzurri just one season after last summer’s big money sale, and the Premier League side are probing the idea of taking a player from Inter as part of the deal.

The Blues do not want to allow Lukaku to re-join Inter on a loan without being compensated significantly, and this could include a player joining them either on loan or on a permanent basis.

Chelsea had been linked with an interest to some of Inter’s biggest names as part of the talks, but they now appear to have honed in on Dumfries as the player they want, while the Nerazzurri would expect his valuation to be at least €40 million in any deal.
