Legendary former Inter striker Samuel Eto’o believes that his compatriot Andre Onana is a top-level goalkeeper and can have the same kind of impact that his former teammate Julio Cesar did at the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to the official FIFA site, as reported by FCInter1908, the Cameroonian former striker gave a glowing assessment of the incoming Nerazzurri goalkeeper as one of the top three players in his position in the world.

Inter have long had Onana lined up for a summer transfer, with the 26-year-old set to be signed on a free transfer when his current contract with Ajax expires at the end of the month.

The Cameroonian has been identified as the player with the right qualities to replace Samir Handanovic in the long term, and Eto’o not only believes that he can do this but also that he can be the successor to the man who Handanovic replaced, Julio Cesar.

“Onana is one of the top three goalkeepers in the world,” the former striker said.

“For me he could even become the very best,” he added. “The fact that he can launch the ball sixty metres and also play as an extra outfield player is something special.”

By way of comparison, Eto’o said that “They belong to different eras, but to me he’s like Julio Cesar in terms of his impact.”
