Departing Juventus captain Girogio Chiellini believes that Inter are still the strongest team in Serie A.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Anch’io Lo Sport, Chiellini gave the view that even though the Nerazzurri narrowly missed out on the Scudetto in the season just gone, they are still the measuring stick in the Italian top flight.

Inter stumbled at crucial moments in the season to allow city rivals AC Milan to pip them to the Serie A title, but for long spells their quality was there for all to see as they looked outright dominant against even the strongest opposition in the league.

Moreover, the Nerazzurri pipped rivals Juventus to both the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia to ensure that they did not finish the season trophyless.

Chiellini feels that purely in terms of their quality on the pitch, Inter were and still are the outstanding team in Italian football.

“I think Inter are ahead of everyone else despite losing out on the Scudetto,” he said. “I think they’re a cut above everyone else.”

“Speaking today, we still talk in terms of last season, because few players have actually left yet,” he added. “The question will have to be asked again in September.”
