Legendary former Inter striker Diego Milito turned 43 yesterday, and the club have sent their best wishes to the striker, one of the most iconic Nerazzurri players of the modern era.

Released on the club’s official site, Inter sent Milito a message from the whole club and the fans wishing him well on his special day and thanking him for his contributions to the club.

Milito joined Inter from Genoa in the summer of 2009, and he could hardly have enjoyed a better debut campaign with the Nerazzurri, winning the treble and capping the season off by scoring both goals in a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

The next season, the Argentine helped Inter to a second consecutive Coppa Italia victory and a second-placed finish in Serie A, and while he was not able to pick up trophies at the same rate after that the 43-year-old still did much to endear himself to the fans.

When Milito left Inter in 2014, he had made 171 appearances across all competitions, scoring 75 goals in the process.

The club’s message to Milito reads, “Arms spread wide, running towards the Nerazzurri faithful to celebrate a goal. It’s an image that will spring to Inter supporters’ minds when they think of Diego Milito, who scored 75 times in 171 appearances for the club.”

“Thirty of those goals came in Inter’s famous 2009/10 treble-winning campaign, including a brace in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.”

“Thanks to all this, ‘The Prince’ has earned the affection of the Inter fans as well as entry into the club Hall of Fame, after Ronaldo and Giuseppe Meazza and before his teammate, Samuel Eto’o.”

“On his 43rd birthday, all Inter fans and everyone at the club send him their best wishes.”
