Inter corporate CEO Alessandro Antonello has admitted that Romelu Lukaku wants to return to the club this summer and they will only sign Paulo Dybala if it is sustainable, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a Trenitalia event, via FCInternews, Alessandro Antonello took some quick questions about what Inter are doing in the transfer market this summer.

He was asked about the prospect of signing both Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku but he reiterated the club’s stance about maintaining competitiveness whilst also remaining financially stable.

“At this moment, it is fundamental to combine competitiveness on the field and economic-financial sustainability. This is the work we are doing, all the club’s choices on the market will always be inspired by these two words.

“We want to respect the Uefa stakes of Financial Fair Play, towards the new rules from 2024-25. Everything can be done, taking into account economic-financial sustainability.”

Then when he was asked specifically about Romelu Lukaku, he admitted that there is a clear desire from the player to rejoin the Nerazzurri and Beppe Marotta is working hard on the deal.

“There is a great desire of the player to return, then the economic feasibility and the resolution of some technical problems must be verified, but it’s better to talk about this with Beppe Marotta. We will try to do it in the correct timeframe.”

The other topic that Alessandro Antonello was asked about was the new stadium. He confirmed that the clubs are asking for an acceleration of the timeframe on the public debate which is the latest thing to hold the project up.

“Inter and AC Milan are working to prepare the integrative documentation to the dossier that will be filed to allow the public debate. The City has appointed Pillon as the person in charge, there have been informal contacts, in the coming weeks we will have official meetings.

“In the meantime, the consultants are working on the dossier. We are asking for an acceleration of the timetable, beyond the location, the execution of the stadium project is important.

“There are formal aspects to follow, we hope that this phase can be concluded no later than the end of November, the conditions are in place for this to happen.”
