Marseille head coach Jorge Sampaoli is pressing for the Ligue 1 side to sign Alexis Sanchez from Inter, but the player’s wages would present a major obstacle to a deal.

This according to Chilean news outlet TNT Sports Chile, who report that Sampaoli has called Sanchez personally about a move but that Marseille could only pay him half of what he earns at Inter, whilst Arsenal and Aston Villa are also interested.

Sanchez’s departure from Inter this summer looks all but inevitable, but the destination remains to be seen, and Sampaoli is keen on reuniting with the player whom he coached while in charge of the Chilean national team.

The 33-year-old is a major target for the coach to strengthen Marseille’s squad for participation in the Champions League, but his wages would be a major obstacle, and it remains to be seen if an arrangement can be found that would make a move possible.
