Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni has said that the reverse derby against AC Milan changed the entire season for the Nerazzurri, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Interviewed as part of a special season review program by DAZN, via FCInternews, the Italian defender pinpointed the 2-1 defeat against AC Milan as the moment where the season changed and Inter’s title challenge took a fatal blow.

Inter had dominated the game until the final quarter of an hour when Olivier Giroud managed to score twice and give the Rossoneri a 2-1 victory.

Alessandro Bastoni says that the championship changed then and AC Milan had fantastic continuity from that moment on as they went on to win their 19th Scudetto.

“From the 75th minute onwards the championship changed because it was very important for us to win and from there I think the season changed.

“We could have potentially gone +10 with the game we had in hand. Milan were good at having consistency and winning all the matches in the final part of the championship.”

Inter hit a very bad patch of form after that game in February as they then took just seven points from their next seven games. The title race still went to the final day.
