Inter look to have signed an ideal backup player to Marcelo Brozovic for next season in the form of young Empoli midfielder Kristjan Asllani.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who note how the Albanian’s age and style of play make him a good fit for the Nerazzurri’s midfield next season.

Inter had identified Asllani as their priority target as a backup player for Brozovic for some time, and now they are on the verge of getting a deal done for him.

Signing a player with the same profile as the Croat has been one of the most important tasks for the summer transfer window, as the Nerazzurri suffered in his absence, taking just one point from nine in the three matches that he did not start.

Asllani is a player with a style of play very much in line with how Brozovic operates, although the 20-year-old can also operate as an attacking midfielder, and could conceivably play a couple different roles in Inter’s midfield.

There is no doubt that Brozovic will remain the first-choice option next season, but Asllani will not be too unhappy to sit on the bench at times and give his contribution when needed, whilst he can also learn from his more experienced teammate.
