Legendary former AC Milan, Feyenoord, and PSV forward Ruud Gullit believes that Inter duo Denzel Dumfries and Stefan de Vrij are among the Dutch players who have shown that it’s possible to thrive outside the Eredeivisie.

Speaking to Dutch magazine Helden, as reported by FCInterNews, Gullit noted the pair among the players who have come from Dutch clubs other than Ajax and made a name for themselves in other leagues.

Both Dumfries and de Vrij played important roles for the Nerazzurri last season, with Dumfries arriving just last summer but settling in quickly whilst de Vrij has been at the Nerazzurri since joining on a free transfer from Lazio in the summer of 2018.

Both are among the key men for the Dutch national team as well, and both are even linked with transfer interest from a number of other top European clubs.

Gullit argued that the Netherlands is capable of producing top level footballers outside the system of Ajax, stating that “Now there are some players who are doing very well abroad.”

“I’ll give a few names,” he continued, “Virgil van Dijk, Stefan de Vrij, Denzel Dumfries, Arnaut Danjuma, and also Wout Weghorst. Teun Koopmeiners is also doing very well at Atalanta. All the players I’ve mentioned don’t come from Ajax.”
