The relationship between Inter coach Simone Inzaghi and Romelu Lukaku was vital to securing the Belgian’s return to the club, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport today, there was a strong bond and understanding formed in the short period of time that the pair worked together last summer.

Simone Inzaghi was able to use Romelu Lukaku in training for 15 days in August last summer but then the Belgian accepted the €115 million move to Chelsea.

Whilst that decision did not make Simone Inzaghi happy, he did not let it sully his relationship with Romelu Lukaku.

As soon as it became clear that there was a chance for the former Manchester United striker to come back to the Nerazzurri, Simone Inzaghi fully endorsed the move and made that clear to the club.

The loan move from Chelsea was made permanent on Wednesday afternoon.
