Former Inter striker Ruben Sosa has said that Romelu Lukaku always scored goals if he is happy at the club he’s playing for, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with FCInter1908, Ruben Sosa showed how happy he is with Inter’s decision to bring Romelu Lukaku back from Chelsea on a loan deal for a season, just one year after selling him to them for €115 million.

He started off by making it clear that Romelu Lukaku was wrong to leave last summer and by coming back he has acknowledged the quality of Inter.

“I’ll say one thing: Lukaku was wrong to leave. He was Inter’s number 9, he was the strongest. If he came back it means he realised that Inter are the best team there is.

“Sometimes players think about leaving, about going from one team to another. I think Lukaku has understood that Inter love him, that the fans love him: he’s a player who has done very well and who will do very well again.”

He received a good reception from the fans at the club headquarters yesterday but Ruben Sosa admitted that he will have to earn the respect of many fans again.

“I think Lukaku owes a debt to the Inter fans: he has already shown he is a bomber, he will always score, but I want him to be ready for the first games and to score for the fans, who love him so much.

“Inter fans are different: when you give everything on the pitch, even if things don’t go well, they are always there for you. Then if you score it’s better. It’s a special kind of crowd, they boo you if you don’t run, then if you give your all and miss a goal they encourage you. They are fans who understand football, this is Inter.”

Talking about the time the striker spent at Inter under Antonio Conte, he said that Romelu Lukaku always scored goals when he is happy.

“Lukaku scores goals wherever he wants, with whomever he wants, as long as he is happy: when he is happy he always scores. He wasn’t happy at Chelsea, but he knows the Inter fans well, he knows Inter well: he will score goals immediately and continue to do what he did in the two years in Milan.”

Romelu Lukaku will be reuniting with Lautaro Martinez and Ruben Sosa said the following about their partnership: “I think they are the best pair: they have technique, they score goals, an important attack to do well in the league and beyond.”

Ruben Sosa quickly discussed his compatriot Martin Satriano who looks set to move on loan to Empoli this summer.

“Satriano has to play: he is a boy who still has to get to know what Italian football is like. I believe that in a year or two he will be a great footballer.

“He has to find a Serie A team, he has arrived at the moment: as soon as he starts playing he will prove his worth. For us in Uruguay he is a very important player also in terms of the national team.”
