Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has been experimenting with some tactical tweaks in the start of preseason training, playing a 3-4-1-2 formation in yesterday’s training match.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that forward Joaquin Correa was used in a Number Ten attacking midfield role playing behind the two strikers.
The strike force of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez has been reunited at Inter with the Belgian’s return and looks set to be first-choice next season, but Inzaghi is thinking about new ideas for how the team sets up behind the duo.
The former Lazio coach remains as committed as ever to playing with a back three and wingbacks, but in midfield he is trying out some new ideas.
In place of the usual system from last season where a three-man midfield consisting of a regista and two box-to-box mezzala players supported the two up front, he has gone with two central midfielders and then Correa in the hole behind the strikers.
It remains to be seen if this is something the coach plans to do more with, or if it is just an experiment during the early phase of preparations.
