Legendary former Inter defender Marco Materazzi enjoyed one of his all-time career highlights when he helped Italy to the World Cup title in 2006, scoring in the final and then slotting away his penalty in the shootout.
The former defender was very decorated at club level including being part of the European treble with the Nerazzurri in 2010, but the World Cup will always be a special piece of history for Materazzi and the rest of that Italian national team.
He posted on his Instagram account to commemorate the sixteen-year anniversary of that triumph, captioning the post “Congrats baby, sixteen years later, CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!”
