Former Juventus, Parma, and Toronto FC forward Sebastiano Giovinco believes that AC Milan are the favourites to defend their Serie A title, and that Inter are just behind them to win the Scudetto.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, the 35-year-old named the Rossoneri as the favourites and predicted that it will be an entertaining season.

Milan pipped Inter to the title by two points last season, winning the league for the first time in eleven years one season after their city rivals had done the same.

The Rossoneri had also finished second in the season prior, suggesting that both Milan teams are in a very strong period, whilst the likes of Napoli, Juventus, and Roma among others can hardly be ruled out of contention.

In the view of Giovinco, it is still the Rossoneri who are best-poised to win it before a ball is kicked, and the Nerazzurri who are just behind.

“I see Milan as the favourites for the title, because they’re wearing the tricolour on their chests,” he said. “Right behind them are Inter, in the last two seasons they ‘ve undoubtedly shown that they have the strongest squad.”

“After them, I see Juventus back in the spotlight with Pogba and Di Maria, I’m sure they’ll be back fighting for the Scudetto,” he predicted. “It will be a great season, I’m sure.”
