Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio is happy to have gotten off the mark after scoring his team’s opening goal early on in today’s friendly clash with Lugano.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after the match, the 33-year-old noted that the Swiss team, the Nerazzurri’s traditional opponent in their first friendly of the preseason, seem to be a team against which he enjoys scoring.
D’Ambrosio has extended his Inter contract and will remain at the club for another season, with the defender continuing to lend his experience to the backline.
Not only that, but the former Torino defender rewarded the team’s faith in him by reminding everyone of his goalscoring prowess from defense, getting the breakthrough very early on this evening.
As the 33-year-old noted, he seems to favour certain opponents, with Empoli a team he’s scored several important goals against, and Lugano appear to be another such team.
“Lugano are like Empoli in Serie A for me, they’re a team that bring me luck,” he joked. “We hope it’s a good omen for this season.”
Of the renewed attacking partnership between Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, D’ambrosio stated that “They can find each other with their eyes closed because they played together for two seasons.”
“But let’s not forget about Edin Dzeko, Alexis Sanchez, and Joaquin Correa, who will certainly help us out,” he added. “We have a lot of quality. If the forwards do well, it’s because the team has made it possible.”
Asked about transfer links to Torino defender Bremer, he said that “I’m not talking about the transfer market, let’s leave these questions to the directors.”
And as for the first impressions made by new signing Kristjan Asllani, he said that “Excellent, the same with Bellanova. Now we have to leave give them time, they are young. We hope they make as few mistakes as possible and that they do well.”
