Legendary former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi believes that Inter are the favourites in Serie A next season, but also that Juventus will be there to challenge them after a disappointing season, and also that Milan can defend their title.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the former coach named the Nerazzurri as the team at the front of the pack, and also gave his thoughts on the return of Romelu Lukaku.

Inter missed out on the title to city rivals AC Milan by two points last season, though for many observers they had been the standout team in the Italian top flight despite some slip-ups in key moments having cost them the title to a more consistent Rossoneri side.

Meanwhile, the Bianconeri endured an awful start to the campaign which meant that even though they were able to improve significantly over the second half of the campaign, a title charge was never realistic for them.

Sacchi gave his thoughts on next season’s title race, stating that “I see Inter as ahead of the pack. From a technical perspective and also in terms of expereince, for me, they were the strongest team last season too.”

“In the end Milan won, deservedly, but the quality is what it is ,” he continued.

As to the team next-best-placed to win the Scudetto, Sacchi said that “Juve are unlikely to slip up two seasons in a row. They’re buying players who are well-suited to Allegri which is positive.”

“They need to rediscover that fighting spirit which has always characterized them,” he said of the Bianconeri.

And regarding his old side Milan, Sacchi predicted that “They will fight for the title. Only on one condition though, that they forget about what they did last season, which was a minor miracle, and focus on improving on the gaps that were exposed last season.”
