Napoli are keen on signing Paulo Dybala who they would see as an ideal replacement for Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne, whilst Roma are reluctant to meet his wage demands despite coach Jose Mourinho pushing for his signing.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the player wants Champions League football next season and that the Partenopei are ready to rival Inter for his signature whereas the situation at the Giallorossi is more mixed.

With Inter having yet to sign Dybala, it looks more and more likely that he could move to another club instead, and now it is Napoli who look to be stepping up.

The Campanians would see the Argentine’s arrival as a kind of sentimental echo of legendary former player Diego Maradona, and are also looking to fill a big void in attack in the form of Mertens and Insigne who both departed on free transfers this summer.

Dybala is seen as a serious target to strengthen for the Champions League by the Partenopei, and they could move for him soon.

Meanwhile, Giallorossi boss Mourinho is a big admirer of the 28-year-old and hopes to add him to his team for next season, but the capital club’s ownership have made reducing wage spending a priority so a move could be difficult.

Lastly, Premier League giants Manchester United are still weighing up a move for Dybala in the event that Cristiano Ronaldo departs this summer.
