Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that the return of Romelu Lukaku will not just be important to the Nerazzurri for his impact on the pitch but also off of it.
Speaking to Italian news outlet QS, via FCInterNews, Bergomi highlighted the way that the Belgian can bring the team together and inspire them on as a unit as a reason why his signing could be significant for next season.
The return of Lukaku to Inter on loan from Chelsea appears to be one of the most sensational pieces of transfer business of the summer, with the 29-year-old having made a huge impact in his two seasons with the club before his shock departure last summer.
The Belgian’s qualities as a footballer are obviously the key reason why he was so important for the team, having led the team in both goals and assists in his final season to power them to the Scudetto, but he is also known to be a strong personality and someone who pushes the team on.
“I like Romelu a lot,” Bergomi said, “he’s a player who brings the group together and creates a bond between everyone, plus only a year has passed since his farewell and I remember that Inzaghi telling me he’d never worked with such a top player before after training with him prior to his departure.”
“Players like Lukaku, Skriniar, Barella, and Bastoni have Inter in their hearts,” he continued, “but someone will have to leave unfortunately out of necessity, probably in defense.”
