Legendary former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta believes that both Inter and Juventus have done enough this transfer window to make themselves the standout contenders for next season’s Serie A title.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the Rossoneri icon suggested that his former team have not yet strengthened enough in the market whereas both of Inter and Juventus have brought in top players.
There is still plenty of time left to go in the summer transfer window, and the signings brought in at a team do not always guarantee how that team’s season will go for good or for bad.
However, both the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri have been very active with bringing in players who fill profiles that seemed to have been lacking in their squad as they lost out on the title to Milan, and Costacurta focused on this on naming them as mutual favourites.
“I’m convinced that balance will still reign supreme,” he predicted of the title race. :But this time, the two rivals could be Inter and Juventus anove all, who’ve brought in top players like Lukaku, Di Maria, and Pogba, while also taking risks by losing Skriniar and de Ligt.”
“Milan are still behind in the transfer market,” he added, “as are Roma and Napoli who have lost a rock at the back in Koulibaly.”
“Inter have strengthened considerably and reformed the formidable attacking partnership that won the Scudetto under Antonio Conte,” Costacurta pointed out.
“But Juventus have also signed top players, and above all they’ll finally have a great natural talent back in Federico Chiesa,” he went on. “The other teams haven’t yet come to life, but a signing like Dybala could yet shift the balance.”
