Midfielder Kristjan Asllani will not just be used as a backup option to Marcelo Brozovic at Inter next summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the 20-year-old could already be set for a more prominent role in the Nerazzurri’s midfield than as a deputy for Brozovic.

Asllani was signed as a backup option for Brozovic, with the Nerazzurri having long seen signing a midfielder with the right profile to fill in when the Croat is out injured or suspended or needs a rest as one of their priorities for the summer.

The Albanian broke into Empoli’s first team across the second half of last season and earned many admirers playing in a deep role similar to Brozovic’s position at Inter.

However, Asllani has also been showing in preseason that he has a versatile game and could be an asset to the team in more ways than simply being a backup to the 29-year-old.
