Newly-arrived goalkeeper Andre Onana looks increasingly ready to seriously challenge Samir Handanovic for the starting spot in goal at Inter next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin0based newspaper Tuttosport, who suggest that the Cameroonian’s display in the friendly against Monaco particularly showed that he is already prepared to push the captain for the first-choice position.

Onana has been brought in as the long-term heir to Handanovic in goal at Inter but not necessarily to immediately displace the 37-year-old who has extended his contract by one season and is still hoping to feature prominently.

The 26-year-old didn’t quite show the full range of his talents when he appeared in the Nerazzurri’s first friendly of preseason, against Lugano, but in the second against Monaco, his display from the bench showed that he could be ready to take over.

There will be more opportunities for Onana to be tested and prove himself in preseason and in the early parts of the campaign, but should he keep playing as he did in his appearance against Monaco, he could well be trusted as the starter.
