Legendary former Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar believes that the situation between current Nerazzurri captain Samir Handanovic and newly-signed keeper Andre Onana isn’t necessarily the same as when he arrived at Inter.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Calcio e Finanza, the Brazilian looked at the situation and noted that it is too simple and too early to draw parallels to when he inherited the first-choice spot in goal from Told.

Cesar arrived at Inter in the summer of 2005, and when the Brazilian came in the Nerazzurri already had a starting keeper of considerable pedigree in the form of Toldo.

However, it was the Brazilian who mostly started as he settled in during his first season, and from then on he was generally the first-choice in goal even if Toldo was occasionally given the chance.

When Cesar departed, it was Handanovic who took his place, but now the Slovenian has been at the club for a decade and is 37, so he could soon find himself displaced from the starting eleven by Onana.

However, Cesar doesn’t think it’s necessarily this simple, stating that “I prefer not to comment on the work of other goalkeepers because we don’t know what happens in training, or in their lives, or in their heads.:

“And besides,” he continued, “it’s always very difficult to compare players different times. I have great respect for both of them.”
