Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti believes that Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is limited in how much he can do in the transfer market when the situation is distorted by money.

Writing in his column for Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, Sconcerti gave his thoughts on the failure of Marotta to sign Torino defender Bremer, which he attributes to the financial disadvantage that his club were at following the huge fee received by Juventus for Matthijs de Ligt.

Inter had long prioritized a move for Bremer this summer, and the possibility of losing Milan Skriniar to Paris Saint-Germain made securing the Brazilian’s signature even more important for them.

Meanwhile, Juventus decided to take a similar tack when it became clear that de Ligt would be on his way as Bayern Munich came in with a massive offer, and this proved to be decisive in their winning the chase for the 25-year-old.

“Juventus got €20 million more for de Ligt than Inter possibly could have for Skriniar,” Sconcerti notes. This has enormous consequences on the balance of football.”

“If you give Juventus €85 million in mid-July, you give them a clear financial advantage against which even Marotta can’t work his magic,” he adds.
