Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin believes that Inter made their decision to sign Romelu Lukaku and that this is why they didn’t end up signing Paulo Dybala.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster RAI Radio, Biasin explained that as he understands it the Nerazzurri didn’t really miss out on the Argentine so much as they prioritized the Belgian when it was clear that he was available.

Inter had looked right on the verge of signing Dybala on a free transfer last month, but the increased feasibility of bringing back Lukaku changed their agenda right as they looked like they were ready to bring the Argentine in.

Lukaku’s loan back from Chelsea had to be completed by the end of the month for reasons related to the tax benefits of the Growth Decree to his wages and so the Nerazzurri wasted no time in bringing the 29-year-old back, and after this the situation with Dybala became much murkier.

Biasin explained that “I don’t think Inter lost out on Dybala to Roma, it was Inter’s choice not to sign him after signing Lukaku.”

“It’s a very different matter with Bremer who they made no secret was a target, he’s a very strong defender and now he goes to a Scudetto rival,” he continued.

“It’s a shame,” he continued about the failure to sign Bremer. “We know that Inter must sign a defender regardless, to replace Ranocchia – all the other starters have a backup.”

“After that, who they sign depends on who leaves,” he continued, “at the moment the team is stronger than it was last season, the midfield is stronger and Lukaku is back in attack.”

Biasin gave the opinion that “I’d sign a mid-level defender and then wrap up the transfer window. I’d be delighted if Skriniar stayed.”
