Inter found themselves to unable to sign top targets Paulo Dybala and Bremer due to a combination of a lack of sales and the absence of a green light from President Steven Zhang to make more signings without first dealing with exits.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who detail how the Nerazzurri’s transfer market has gone off the rails in recent days.

Inter had looked to be going full speed ahead in June as they brought in several players, most prominently a returning Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea, but also several targeted acquisitions to address areas of weakness from last weakness.

Two outstanding pieces of business that were yet to be done, however, were the signings of Paulo Dybala on a free transfer and the snapping up of Bremer from Torino, always a major priority.

In the case of Dybala, Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta may well have been able to get the Argentine to wait just a little longer and then get the deal done, but with Alexis Sanchez refusing to leave the club with Sanchez with severance pay and Andrea Pinamonti still on the books, this was not possible.

Meanwhile, Zhang felt that with signings already made, priority had to be given the getting sales wrapped up before Bremer could be signed.

The President felt that only when progress was made with the anticipated sale of Milan Skriniar to Paris Saint-Germain would it be financially prudent to finally close on a deal for Bremer.

The feeling within the club is that perhaps if talks had ramped up with Torino ten days earlier, the Brazilian could have come in, but the strategy on Zhang’s part was to avoid outlaying a significant transfer fee for the 25-year-old until sales were made to reinvest.
