Belgium coach Roberto Martinez has said that Romelu Lukaku is smiling a lot more now that he has signed for Inter again, according to a report in the Belgian media today.

Speaking to a reporter from Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, via FCInternews, Roberto Martinez discussed the Belgian striker following his return to Inter after a very unsuccessful spell at Chelsea.

“Every time I see a player smile, I am happy as a coach. And Romelu has been smiling a lot in recent weeks. That can only be a good sign.

“Sometimes, for some reason, things don’t work out at a club, exactly as Romelu did at Chelsea. It was time to find a solution and I think he is ready for a big challenge. He left Inter after winning the Scudetto, expectations will be high, but it’s something he needs.”

Romelu Lukaku had two highly successful seasons at Inter but last summer a bid came in from the Premier League side for €115 million. Inter decided to accept it after Romelu Lukaku said that he would be open to making the move to prove his worth at Chelsea, a team he played for as a youngster.

He did not click at all on his return and he did not have a good relationship with head coach Thomas Tuchel. He was very clear that he wants to come back to Inter and they made the deal work.
