Lega Serie A president Lorenzo Casini has expressed concern about playing in high temperatures o the opening day of the new season, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking whilst at the Dacia Arena to see Udinese vice president Stefano Campoccia and others, via FCInter1908, the president expressed some serious concern about the start date of the new Serie A campaign.

Europe has been suffering from severe heat wave this summer with even England registering temperatures of over 40 degrees celsius.

Due to the 2022 Qatar World Cup taking place in November and December to combat high temperatures in the Middle East, European top flight campaigns are starting much earlier than usual.

That has prompted Lorenzo Casini to voice concern at how hot it is likely to be when the first matches take place on August 13.

“The first concern is related to the weather, since the possible persistence of the current temperatures would make it difficult to start playing on August 13.

“It will certainly be an abnormal season because of the break linked to the World Cup, and it will be sad to have to watch it without the participation of the Italian national team. But this will serve as a warning to invest more and more in young Italians in our league.”

There will assumedly be a drinks break in each half of the games but any other measures are unknown.
