Samir Handanovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were among the highlights of Inter’s display in their 0-1 friendly loss to Lens, whilst forwards Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa looked off the pace.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who argue that the attack failed to ignite but that players like Handanovic and Mkhitaryan are looking like they’re on track for the preseason preparations.

The Nerazzurri put in a flat display against Lens, particularly in the first half, although the nature of the performance in context will ultimately be more important than the result given that it was a preseason friendly.

In this respect, the performances of Handanovic and Mkhitaryan were encouraging as both veterans looked as though they are where they need to be in their preparations and will be at their sharpest when the beginning of the season arrives.

More worrying was the bluntness in front of goal, and starting duo Dzeko and Correa may have confirmed their status as backup options to Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez with their displays against the French outfit.
