The entire atmosphere around Inter’s preseason has been thrown into disarray by their failures to sign Bremer and Paulo Dybala, but this should be something that they can brush off and still compete for the Serie A title.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who argue that the Nerazzurri still have all the quality necessary to be among the Scudetto favourites and that this can emerge with time as they put this dreadful week behind them.

Missing out on a player of Bremer’s calibre to a major rival like Juventus when they had expected to sign him for month came as a huge blow for Inter, whilst the confirmation that they would not sign Paulo Dybala on a free transfer after all only added to the bitterness.

This bleak mood and uncertainty has even filtered to the squad and the training pitch, but in reality the plans are still well on track, with coach Simone Inzaghi having his first full season in charge behind him and another summer of preseason training and squad reinforcements.

New arrivals from last month have added quality to targeted areas in the squad, not least the return of Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea to strengthen the attack, and the team had already been the best attack in Serie A as they finished two points behind AC Milan last time around.

Regaining their bearings after being “stunned” by the abrupt change of plans caused by losing out on Bremer and Dybala will take the Nerazzurri a bit of time, but once they do the team are where they need to be.
