Samir Handanovic is likely to start the upcoming season as the first-choice goalkeeper at Inter despite the competition of Andre Onana.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the captain is currently ahead of the newly-arrived keeper in the pecking order.
Handanovic extended his contract with the Nerazzurri for the upcoming season, and the 37-year-old did so with the expectation of still having a prominent role to play in the team.
The Slovanian’s wages dropped from €4 million net per season to €2.5 million net, although his new deal contains a potential €700,000 in add-ons which are linked to the number of appearances that he makes.
Should Handanovic continue to start regularly, he will trigger add-ons to earn the same as Onana will for the season, around €3 million net.
The captain should still be the regular starting goalkeeper for the opening phases of the upcoming campaign at least, whilst it will remain to be seen what happens as far as competition between he and Onana goes as the season goes on.
