Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has made clear that he does not want to see wingback Denzel Dumfries sold this summer, as he considers the 26-year-old essential to his tactical system functioning properly.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that Dumfries is fundamental to the tactical plans for Inzaghi especially considering Ivan Perisic has already left on the opposite side of the pitch.

The wingback positions are of vital importance to the style of play that Inzaghi wants to utilize with Inter, and last season Perisic, Dumfries, and Matteo Darmian were all important players in making the coach’s 3-5-2 shape effective.

Perisic, who was arguably the Nerazzurri’s outstanding player last campaign, left for Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer at the start of the summer transfer window, and the coach does not want to disrupt both flanks.

Young wingback Raoul Bellanova has come in from Cagliari, but as far as Inzaghi is concerned, a second season working with Dumfries will be essential to the team functioning at its best.
