AC Milan defender Fiyako Tomori believes that despite the focus on Romelu Lukaku’s return to Inter potentially shifting the balance in the Serie A title race, the Rossoneri can still defend their title.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the Englishman emphasized that the Rossoneri still have the quality to deal with anyone in Serie A as they proved last season.

Milan rose to the top of the pile in Serie A last season, proving that they were the team with the most consistency and showing their quality when it mattered most to edge out the Nerazzurri by two points on the final day of an unpredictable title race.

This does not mean, however, that the Rossoneri are considered to defend their title immediately, and one of the biggest reasons why is that both Inter and also Juventus have made eye-catching signings this summer, with Lukaku’s return to the Nerazzurri being perhaps the biggest of the lot.

Tomori commented that “My first match for Milan was against Romelu, and on that day I had respect for him, but not fear.”

“It will be the same this time around,” he continued. “Lukaku is strong, Inter are strong but we are too. We know that the derby will be a special match.”
