Italian journalist Franco Vanni has hit out at the contract that Alexis Sanchez is currently on at Inter and says it is from a previous age, according to a report in the Italian media.

As was explained by the journalist in his piece for La Repubblica, the Chilean is currently on a contract that now looks like it belongs to a totally different time in football given the figures involved.

The deal was of course signed before the Covid-19 pandemic threw the finances of so many cubs, particularly Inter, right up in the air.

That is why the Nerazzurri are so keen to move him on this summer and are willing to pay him €5 million in severance pay to break his €7 million per season contract.

“Like a fossil, Alexis Sanchez’s contract is the testimony of an era that no longer exists. Not even three years have passed since he came on loan under Antonio Conte, but it looks like a geological era.

“In fact, in the post-Covid Serie A, the fact that a bench player earns €7 million net a season appears out of time and beyond any criterion of reasonableness. For this reason Inter are struggling to get rid of him.”

Inter do now appear to be closer than ever before to getting rid of the former Manchester United man as he could be set to sign a contract with Marseille in Ligue 1.
