Former Cagliari and SPAL head coach Leonardo Semplici believes that the return of Romelu Lukaku makes Inter the favourites to win the Serie A title as things stand.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Vikonos, Semplici gave his assessment of the Italian top flight with one month to go in the transfer window and two weeks before the season begins, and named the Nerazzurri as favourites.
Inter have brought back a player who had been crucial to their 2020-21 title win by loaning Lukaku back just one year after his big money move to Chelsea.
Given that the team missed out on the title by just two points last season, the hope will be that the addition of the Belgian’s goals, assists, and overall influence will be enough to raise the level that the team already showed last time around.
Semplici believes that this will be the case and that Inter are in the best position to win the Scudetto.
“One month before the the transfer window closes, Inter are still the strongest, despite their second place finish,” he argued. “Lukaku’s return makes them the favourites.”
