Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is ready to put all of his faith behind the duo of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez to lead the Nerazzurri’s attack for the season to come and beyond.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the coach is fully convinced by the duo, and that the others in attack are firmly behind the starting pair.
Inzaghi was one of the strongest advocates for Lukaku’s return apart from the Belgian himself, with the coach having made clear that finding an agreement with Chelsea was a priority as soon as the possibility made itself apparent.
Now, the former Lazio coach sees having Lukaku at the tip of the spear as one of the elements which will be decisive to the team in the season to come, whilst he also feels that Martinez’s status as the 29-year-old’s partner is not up for dispute.
Edin Dzeko will be expected to show that his dip in form at the end of the last season is not permanent in his role as Lukaku’s backup, whilst Joaquin Correa will be expected to show why he was signed by demonstrating the form that he did under Inzaghi at Lazio when he’s given the opportunity to play.
The coach is happy with both Dzeko and Correa as pieces of his squad, but at the same time either would likely have been sold this summer had the right offer come along, with Paulo Dybala having been waiting in the wings as replacements.
In any event, Inzaghi made clear to the club that Lukaku was the priority over Dybala, which is the main reason why the club did not move for the Argentine, who the coach would have likely seen in more of a role like that of Dzeko and Correa.
It is Lukaku and Martinez who the former Biancocelesti is putting his faith in, and he feels that they can hit even greater heights than they did in their two seasons playing as an attacking partnership under Antonio Conte.
