Former Inter, Parma, and Lazio striker Hernan Crespo feels little doubt that legendary former Nerazzurri captain Javier Zanetti would make a hypothetical eleven of the greatest players he’s had as teammates.

Speaking in this week’s SportWeek insert in yesterday’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the Argentine named Zanetti in his “Dream Team” starting eleven and made clear that there was no doubt about who he would include at left-back.

Crespo crossed paths with many of Serie A’s most iconic players of the past few decades across his time in the top flight, whilst the Argentine also had no shortage of top-class players at teammates during his spell as a Chelsea player.

However, for him fellow Argentines and former Inter players Zanetti and Juan Sebastian Veron were easy inclusions in his “Dream Team” whilst the likes of Lilian Thuram, Paolo Maldini, Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Pirlo, Jorge Valdano, Diego Maradona, and Marco Van Basten round out the team.

Remarking on Zanetti’s inclusion, Crespo stated “Don’t worry, captain, the No. 2 [left-back] shirt is yours.”
