Former Roma, Udinese, and Argentine national team striker Abel Balbo believes that the importance of Romelu Lukaku’s return to Inter for Lautaro Martinez should not be overlooked.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Libero in an interview published in today’s print edition, Balbo stressed the chemistry that the two strikers have together and named them as the best strike partnership in Serie A on paper.

Lukaku and Martinez have already spent two seasons together, and in both of them they formed a complementary pair which saw both score prolifically while the Belgian found an ideal foil who he regularly created chances for.

Martinez will once again have his partner in crime from the Scudetto-winning 2020-21 campaign by his side, and for Balbo this will be beneficial for him to take another step forward in his game.

Lukaku’s return means that Inter have a player who twice finished as their top scorer during two seasons, but not only this, they also have a player who can get the best out of Martinez in Balbo’s view.

“At the start of the season they’ll start out as the best attacking duo because they’re already very close and have done great things together,” he said of the pair. “I think the return of Lukaku will also be beneficial to Lautaro.”
