Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels satisfied with what he saw from his team on the pitch in their 2-2 draw with Lyon in yesterday evening’s friendly.
Speaking to InterTV after the match, the coach emphasized that it is a positive thing for their preseason preparations that the friendlies have been demanding, and that he feels that the team are where they need to be in their performances in these matches.
Inter went 0-2 down against Lyon after fifty minutes, conceding goals to Alexandre Lacazette and Rayan Cherki, before producing a reaction and drawing level through goals from Romelu Lukaku and Nicolo Barella.
Ultimately, the result is of little importance in a preseason match, but the coach will nevertheless be pleased to see that the players were able to sort themselves out after struggling early on.
The beginning of the Serie A season is now less than two weeks away, and Inzaghi feels that the team are preparing well with what they’re showing in their friendly matches.
“It was a very good match,” he said, “against a team who we know are ahead of us in their physical preparations and who have a lot of quality.”
“I saw the things that I was looking for,” he continued, “the team did well and produced a great response, and also had many opportunities in the first half as well.”
The coach noted that “The physical condition of the team is improving and I saw the right spirit. The guys were a team and we tried to put into practice what we’ve been working on in training, so I’m very satisfied.”
“We knew we had to face some tough tests in the preseason but that’s what we want to do,” he added.
Inzaghi said that “We know we have great support from our fans. Already in these friendlies you can feel the passion of the Inter fans, which accompanied us throughout last season as well. We’re working hard so that we can give them something to be excited about.”
