Inter summer signing Andre Onana is impressed by what he’s seen in his first preseason with the club and believes that the team is strong enough to fight for trophies next season.
Speaking to InterTV after yesterday evening’s friendly match against Lyon, the goalkeeper gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s preparations for the upcoming season and their aims for the campaign.
Onana made his long-anticipated move to Inter on a free transfer from Ajax official at the start of this month when his contract with the Dutch champions officially expired.
The 26-year-old joins a team that had won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana last season whilst narrowly missing out on the Serie A title to AC Milan and getting dumped out of the Champions League by Liverpool.
Onana joins as a long-term heir to Samir Handanovic in goal, but the Cameroonian is convinced that already the team has what it takes to win trophies at the beginning of his Nerazzurri adventure.
“I feel positively about things,” the goalkeeper said. “Of course you always want to win, and we showed it as a team. As I always say – the most important thing is the team.”
He continued that “It was important to improve and prepare for the matches that will soon arrive.”
“I’m doing well, I’m happy to be here,” Onana said, “this is a fantastic group. The preparations are hard but we’re doing well. I believe in this group, in these top players, in the team we have, I think we have the ability to reach our goals.”
Of the Inter fans, the goalkeeper said that “Their presence gives us strength, we’ll give everything for them, we will try to win everything we can, to give our best in every match.”
“I hope that the strength they transmit to us will help us in achieving our goals,” he continued.
