Legendary former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli feels that with the condensed schedule heading into the winter World Cup, teams’ squads are going to have more pressure put on them than ever.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, the former striker predicted that the World Cup would have a significant impact and would make preparations and squad depth more important than ever.

Inter and every other club in Serie A and the rest of the world are dealing with an unprecedented winter World Cup which cuts the season in half.

The long break in club football will nevertheless see many of the Nerazzurri’s players engaged throughout the international tournament, whilst the matches during the season will come thick and fast across all competition especially given that Inter also have Champions League commitments.

Altobelli gave his thoughts on the matter, stating that “Playing every three days will require the entire squad to contribute, but above all the summer preparations will be decisive. The coming days will be important, Qatar will have an impact on schedules and preparation.”
