Inter forward Joaquin Correa is pleased about his goal scored against Spezia in yesterday evening’s 3-0 win and hopes that he can keep building on it and improving as the season progresses.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, the 28-year-old admitted that he did not show everything that he’s capable of last time around in his first season in a Nerazzurri shirt, but also expressed optimism and ambition for his second campaign at the club.
Correa joined Inter late last August, and while he got off to a dream start by coming off the bench to score a match-winning brace against Hellas Verona in his debut, after that it was more a matter of flashes of quality rather than consistent contribution from the Argentine.
This season, however, he has always made it clear that he wants to stay at Inter and prove himself, and if this is his aim then he’s gotten off to a good start with his goal from the bench against Spezia, albeit there is a long way to go.
Of his goal against Spezia, the Nerazzurri’s third on the night, Correa said that “It’s important, I’m happy. Last season was not a great one and I dealt with some injuries, it’s important for me to start like this.”
“Everyone knows that I always give my best,” he noted, “but my best is more than what I was able to show last season.”
Regarding the moment in which he scored his goal against Spezia, Correa said that “I thought about it for a moment, I was on my own and I tried to take an extra second to get the ball onto my right foot. Edin did very well to get it to me.”
Of his relationship with Inter coach Simone Inzaghi, Correa said that “I’ve known him for a long time, he’s always been important to me. We’ve won together – he knows what I can give him at certain times and I know that he trusts me. We both want to keep winning.”
“The guys always show me love,” he went on. “We’re a tight-knit team, we want to win together, everyone is good guys and that’s important for achieving our aims.”
