Former Udinese and Fiorentina midfielder Gaetano D’Agostino believes that AC Milan are the real favourites to defend their Serie A title despite widespread expectation around Inter and Juventus.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, the former midfielder stressed that the Rossoneri can still go in as favourites due to the experience of having just won the title, regardless of how the transfer window has gone.

Despite their successful last season, in which they won the Scudetto for the first time in eleven years, Milan have not had the most eye-catching transfer window so far.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri have strengthened in several key positions, with the most high-profile arrival being the return of Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea, whilst the Bianconeri’s transfer window has arguably grabbed even more attention.

For D’Agostino, however, this isn’t everything, and he pointed out that “There’s a lot of talk about Inter and Juventus because of their transfer windows, but I think Milan are still the team to beat as reigning champions.”

He then spoke about the Rossoneri’s strategy, stating that “They’re not generating as much excitement, but I think they’re planning very intelligently. I think they’ll still fight for the title.”
