Inter, AC Milan, and Napoli could see their guaranteed earnings from participation in the Champions League drop if Benfica are to qualify for the group stage of the competition ahead of Midtjylland.
This according to Italian news outlet Calcio e Finanza, who report that the Portuguese giants would take a higher share of the earnings for participation in the group stage are they to qualify due to their higher ten-year coefficient.
Among Italian teams, Juventus have the highest guaranteed earnings for participation in the Champions League, with €33 million the least that the Bianconeri can earn for playing in Europe’s competition next season.
Meanwhile, the earnings of the other three Serie A sides in the competition will yet depend on whether or not Benfica progress from their final round qualifying tie against Midtjylland.
Should the Lisbon-based club fail to progress, then Napoli will pocket €19.3 million, Inter €17 million, and Milan €15.9 million.
However, should Benfica make the group stage, they would bump the trio back in the rankings among qualified teams, meaning that the Partenopei would earn a minimum of €18.1 million, the Nerazzurri €15.9 million, and the Rossoneri €14.7 million.
The first leg of Benfica’s tie against the Danish runners-up will be played this evening, whilst the second leg will be played a week from today on Tuesday, August 9.
